Pa Uon Bridge, Road bridge in Sơn La Province, Vietnam
Pa Uon Bridge crosses the Black River with eleven concrete pillars and two abutments that support the roadway. The structure stretches approximately 900 meters and measures about 9 meters in width to accommodate vehicle traffic.
Construction of the bridge finished in 2007 and replaced a ferry system that had served local residents for many decades. The new crossing substantially improved connections between Quỳnh Nhai District and Thai settlements on the opposite bank.
The bridge serves as a gathering point during boat racing events where teams compete in the waters below. These occasions bring together residents from surrounding villages for shared celebration and tradition.
The bridge is engineered to handle severe earthquakes and functions as a reliable road crossing for regular vehicle traffic. Visitors should know this is primarily a working transportation link, and the best views come from the riverbank or water below.
Two of its pillars tower nearly 100 meters high, making them among the tallest support structures for Vietnamese road bridges without cable suspension systems. This height allows large boats and river vessels to pass underneath without obstruction.
