Styggevatnet is a glacial lake in Luster Municipality situated at approximately 1,160 meters in elevation. The water body was created by damming and now functions as a reservoir for hydroelectric power generation.
The lake was created in 1989 when a hydroelectric dam merged two smaller water bodies into a single reservoir. This project fundamentally transformed the regional water management system.
The lake forms an integral part of Norway's outdoor recreation system, where visitors engage in kayaking expeditions between glacial formations.
Breheimsenteret visitor center serves as the main starting point for activities around the lake. From there, visitors can begin explorations and access information about the surrounding area.
