Styggevatnet

Located at an elevation of 1156 meters, Styggevatnet stretches six kilometers in length and reaches depths of up to 90 meters in its reservoir.

The construction of the hydroelectric dam in 1989 merged two smaller lakes into a single reservoir, transforming the regional water management system.

The lake forms an integral part of Norway's outdoor recreation system, where visitors engage in kayaking expeditions between glacial formations.

Access to Styggevatnet is facilitated through the Breheimsenteret information center, which serves as the primary starting point for lake activities.

The reservoir generates some of the highest water pressure levels for hydroelectric power production in Northern Europe through its substantial altitude differential.
