Merry Cemetery, Cemetery and tourist attraction in Săpânța, Romania.
The cemetery contains over 800 wooden crosses painted in bright colors, each displaying carved scenes depicting the lives of those buried beneath them.
Local artist Stan Ioan Pătraș began creating the distinctive wooden crosses in 1935, establishing a tradition that continues through his successor Dumitru Pop.
Each grave marker presents poems and illustrations that tell personal stories about the deceased, reflecting Romanian folk traditions and rural life.
The site requires an entrance fee and includes a memorial house located 300 meters away where visitors can learn about the craftsman's techniques.
The wooden crosses feature inscriptions that combine biographical details with humor, presenting death through an unconventional perspective.
