Maramureș Village Museum

The Maramureș Village Museum presents traditional houses, churches, and agricultural buildings relocated from various villages across the Maramureș region of northern Romania.

The museum opened its doors in January 1981, building upon the foundation of an earlier ethnographic collection established in 1926 at the cultural palace.

Wooden structures throughout the museum display the architectural techniques of Maramureș craftsmen, featuring intricate carvings and specific construction methods passed through generations.

Visitors can explore numerous authentic peasant households, workshops, and religious buildings while learning about traditional tools and regional customs through guided tours.

The museum collection includes original farming implements, household items, and textiles that document the daily routines of Maramureș inhabitants from past centuries.
