Akshuat dendropark, Botanical garden in Ulyanovsk Oblast, Russia
Akshuat dendropark is a protected woodland area in Ulyanovsk Oblast covering roughly 49 hectares. It contains more than 70 tree species, including linden, birch, maple, and hazelnut growing in their natural state.
The reserve was founded in 1848 and originally functioned as a tree nursery for conifers. The project aimed to shield agricultural land in the region from sand drift.
Scientists and students regularly visit the dendropark to conduct research on temperate ecosystems and study the behaviors of local plant species.
The park operates under strict protection measures that keep the woodland in its natural state without human interference. Visitors can walk through the area while respecting the sensitive environment.
The site began as a practical solution to stabilize sandy soils in the Russian steppe during the 1800s. What started as a tree-planting mission evolved into a complete woodland ecosystem that remains protected today.
