Korbu Waterfall, Natural waterfall in Altai Republic, Russia
Korbu Waterfall is a cascade where the Bolshaya Korbu River drops water near the eastern shore of Lake Teletskoye. Wooden walkways lead visitors to a viewing platform positioned about 25 meters from the falls, allowing close observation of the flow.
The waterfall gained protection as a natural monument in 1996 and later became part of the Altai State Natural Biosphere Reserve. This legal status has helped safeguard the area and its natural features.
The name Korbu comes from an Altai word meaning shrubs or young tree shoots, reflecting the dense plant life that surrounds the falls.
The best way to reach the waterfall is by boat from Artybash village, as the surrounding area has limited road access. The wooden walkways are well-maintained, but sturdy footwear is recommended, especially when surfaces are wet or slippery.
During winter months the waterfall freezes into a massive ice wall, a spectacle that attracts climbers and photographers. In summer the mist creates a cool, humid zone that keeps the surrounding rocks and plants lush.
