Торговый дом Хомякова

The Khomyakov Trading House is a building with Viennese modernist architecture featuring Greek-inspired sculptures and decorative elements on its prominent facade. It stands at the intersection of Kuznetsky Most and Petrovka streets and now houses the Federal Agency for Maritime and River Transport.

The building was designed in 1899 by architect I.A. Ivanov-Shitz and reflects Moscow's growing importance as a trading center. In 1931, it gained two extra floors that changed its height and presence at the street intersection.

The building once brought together furniture merchants, bank workers, and theater artists who rented affordable rooms nearby. This mix of commerce, finance, and artistic life made it a vibrant social center in Moscow around 1900.

The building sits in a central Moscow location at a busy street corner, making it easy to reach. Since it houses government offices, visitors can view the outer architecture and facade details from the street.

The corner of the building features a faceted bay window crowned with a semi-rotunda that functions as a third-floor balcony. This architectural detail creates unexpected three-dimensional depth at the point where two streets meet.
