CSKA, Metro station in Khoroshyovsky District, Russia.
CSKA is an underground metro station in Moscow's Khoroshyovsky District, serving the Kalinin-Solntsevskaya line. The station sits at considerable depth beneath street level and has wide platforms designed to handle large numbers of passengers.
The station opened in February 2018 as part of an extension of the Moscow Metro toward the city's northwest. The new line was built to improve connections between central Moscow and a zone that had been growing in population for years.
The station takes its name from the Central Sports Club of the Army, one of Russia's most recognized sports organizations. Inside, red and blue tones run through the design, echoing the club's colors and giving the space a recognizable identity.
The station is close to the CSKA sports complex, so platforms can get very crowded on match days. Visiting outside of rush hours or on non-event days makes moving around the area much easier.
Although the station carries the name of the sports club, the club itself had no involvement in the design process. The red and blue color scheme was chosen by Moscow's city planners as a tribute, independently of the organization.
