Zimniy Stadion

The Zimniy Stadion is a classical structure in central Saint Petersburg featuring symmetrical design and spacious interior rooms. The building combines ordered classical proportions with functional spaces arranged for events and activities.

The architect Vincenzo Brenna designed this building in 1800 during Saint Petersburg's rise as Russia's main cultural center. In 1949 it was converted into a modern sports venue, ending its earlier role as a cavalry school.

The building served as an imperial cavalry academy where officers trained in horsemanship and military skills. Visitors walking through can still sense this military heritage in how the spaces are arranged and in the formal character of the design.
