Kronprinsen is a 27-storey, 82-metre residential tower at Regementsgatan 52 in Västra Innerstaden, clad in blue mosaic tiles. Its ground floor holds a shopping centre of about 40 shops and services, and the complex also includes apartment blocks, a clinic, a tennis hall and a parking garage. The top floor houses the restaurant Översten.
Completed in 1964 by architect Thorsten Roos, this structure was the tallest building in Malmö for four decades. The Turning Torso, finished in 2005, eventually surpassed it in height.
The name Kronprinsen refers to the site's former use as barracks for royal military forces. Today, locals recognize the structure as a defining landmark in their neighborhood.
Kronprinsen stands at the corner of Mariedalsvägen and Regementsgatan, with Slottsparken across Regementsgatan. The complex holds a parking garage in the basement and a 14-lane bowling alley. The ground-floor shopping centre has around 40 shops and services, among them a pharmacy, optician, dry cleaner and shoe and key repair.
The building stands out for its distinctive blue tiled exterior, making it a recognizable feature of Malmö's skyline. This design choice from the 1960s remains instantly recognizable today.
