The Malmö Opera features a large auditorium with 1,511 seats and an orchestra pit that accommodates 60 musicians within its functionalist architecture.
Construction of the opera house started in 1933 under the direction of architects Sigurd Lewerentz, David Helldén, and Erik Lallerstedt, completing the project in 1944.
The main foyer contains decorative elements by Swedish artists, including sculptures created by Carl Milles and Isaac Grünewald, enhancing the interior design.
The venue includes multiple performance spaces with the Main stage, Intiman, and Verkstan, each designed for different types of theatrical productions.
The auditorium incorporates retractable walls that allow modification into four different configurations to suit various performance requirements.
