Victoriateatern, music venue and former cinema in Malmö, Sweden
Victoriateatern is a cinema and music venue in Malmö that presents films and live performances in a single space. The auditorium holds approximately 145 seats in the main area and 45 more on the balcony, creating an intimate setting for diverse events.
The theater opened in 1912, designed by architect Axel Stenberg in Jugendstil style and originally seating 500 people. After decades as a cinema, it was converted from 1974 onward into a venue for local music and theater groups.
The name Victoriateatern references Queen Victoria and reflects the venue's heritage. Today it serves as a gathering place where local people come together to watch films or enjoy live music performances.
The venue is easy to reach on foot or by public transport, and staff are friendly and helpful with questions. You can purchase tickets online through Kulturcentralen and reserve seats in advance.
The original interior featured large aquaria on each side of the stage, an unusual feature from when it first opened. Though this distinctive design no longer exists, vintage photographs document the elegant vision that early visitors experienced.
