Lilla Edet Municipality, Municipality in Västra Götaland County, Sweden
Lilla Edet Municipality is an administrative area in Västra Götaland on Sweden's west coast with mixed urban and rural sections. The territory spreads along the Göta River and contains several smaller towns and settlements within its boundaries.
The area was a major trading point in medieval times on a busy shipping route connecting north and south. In the 20th century, merging several local communities created the present-day municipal structure.
The Lödöse Museum showcases medieval finds and objects that reveal the area's past as a trading hub along important waterways. Visitors can see how merchants and craftspeople once lived and worked in this historic settlement.
Visitors can find small museums and historic sites here that are reachable on foot or by car. Spring through autumn offers the best conditions, when paths are easy to navigate and local events happen more often.
Within the municipality lies Lödöse, a former trading town that served as the original settlement roughly 550 years ago. From there, the present-day city of Gothenburg was later founded and the trading center shifted westward.
