Category:Windmill in Holíč, Dutch windmill in Holíč, Slovakia.
This windmill in Holíč is a three-story stone structure with a circular base and a brick dome at the top, where the rotating mechanism once existed. The building displays the typical Dutch architectural style of its era with thick walls and straightforward geometric forms.
The windmill was built in the second half of the 19th century to grind grain despite low water levels in the nearby river. It remained operational until the end of that century, when the need for this type of structure declined.
The local hunting association transformed this technical monument into a gathering space where the community organizes social and cultural events.
The site is easily accessible on foot and offers good visibility from the street. Access is straightforward, and the building can be viewed from outside, though visitors should check whether interior visits are available.
This is the only preserved windmill of Dutch type in all of Slovakia. The building testifies to a time when such structures were necessary to make agriculture independent of natural water-power sources.
