Holíč Manor house, Baroque manor house in District of Skalica, Slovakia.
Holíč Manor house is a Baroque structure in the District of Skalica featuring architectural elements from both the Baroque and Classical periods. Strong defensive walls and a surrounding moat define its physical character and reflect its defensive past.
The building began as a Gothic water castle in the 13th century and was later transformed into a manor house during the 18th century under Habsburg rule. This conversion brought the Baroque style that defines the structure today.
A Chinese hall inside features painted leather wallpaper that reflects how European nobility admired Asian design. This decorated room shows the taste for exotic influences that wealthy families valued during that era.
The manor welcomes visitors from April through September, with extended hours during the summer months of July and August. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended since the grounds are surrounded by water and the terrain may be uneven in places.
The moat surrounding the manor remains filled with water and provides year-round habitat for numerous water bird species. Visitors can often spot different waterfowl making their homes in this artificial pond.
