Galyani Vadhana

Galyani Vadhana is an administrative district in Chiang Mai comprising three subdistricts spread across mountainous terrain. The district office in Chaem Luang provides services to residents while accommodating the area's remote communities.

The district was created in 2009 following a separation from Mae Chaem District to serve remote mountain communities more effectively. This division allowed for more focused governance of the scattered settlements in the region.

The district carries the name of Princess Galyani Vadhana, honoring her legacy and significance to the nation. Local communities maintain traditional crafts and customs passed down through generations in this region.

The district is accessible by mountain roads that may take longer depending on weather and season. Visitors should expect limited services in this sparsely populated mountainous area and ask locally for the best travel conditions.

The district was established directly as a full administrative division without passing through the usual minor district stage, receiving royal project status for fast-track approval. This made it exceptional in how Thailand typically creates new administrative units.
