The museum was founded in 2006 by Nikolay and Marina Bogdanenko, both plumbing professionals. The collection reflects the evolution of sanitation systems from ancient times to the modern era.
The exhibition shows how different cultures approached sanitation throughout history and explains old terms like why toilets were called wardrobes. The way people understood waste disposal varied greatly between wealthy and poor households.
The museum is located near Klovskaya metro station at Pecherskiy descent and is open daily. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes and allow time to explore the chronologically arranged collection at a relaxed pace.
The museum preserves a wooden model based on Leonardo da Vinci's design sketches. The collection holds the world record for the largest souvenir toilet collection.
