Orta Cami

Orta Cami is a mosque in Bakhchysarai with a square prayer hall divided into three aisles and topped by a hip roof. Two octagonal minarets flank the structure, each reaching approximately 28 meters high.

Construction began in 1674 during the period of the Crimean Khanate, when the city served as an important religious and political center. The limestone structure became a focal point for Islamic worship in the region.

The building shows a blend of Ottoman, Persian, and Italian design elements that appear in its walls and details. This mixture reflects the city's role as a former capital where different traditions met.

The mosque is accessible on foot through the old town streets and relatively easy to locate. Visitors should wear appropriate clothing and be aware that certain areas may have limited access during prayer times.

The interior features balconies that provide additional seating for worshippers. A dedicated room was reserved where khans participated in prayer ceremonies alongside other congregants.
