Vasylivka Raion, Administrative district in Zaporizhzhia Oblast, Ukraine
Vasylivka Raion is an administrative district in the southern part of Zaporizhzhia Oblast, Ukraine, made up of several towns and villages. The area uses the town of Vasylivka as its administrative center and covers a flat, largely agricultural steppe landscape.
The district was formed in 1923 and has been part of Zaporizhzhia Oblast since that time. In 2020, a national administrative reform merged several smaller raions into fewer, larger ones across Ukraine.
The raion sits in the historical steppe region of southern Ukraine, where farming has shaped daily life for generations. In the villages, one can still see traditional farmstead layouts and open fields that set the pace of local life.
The district is most easily reached through the town of Vasylivka, which acts as a starting point for the surrounding settlements. The terrain is flat, making orientation straightforward, but distances between villages can be long, so having your own transport is helpful.
The area sits within the historical Zaporizhzhian steppe, once used by Cossacks, and traces of that past remain visible in local place names and small memorials scattered across the district. Some villages in the raion carry names that directly reference this Cossack heritage.
