Zaporizhzhia Oblast, Administrative region in southeastern Ukraine.

Zaporizhzhia is an administrative region in southeastern Ukraine that stretches along the Dnieper and touches the Sea of Azov. The territory combines flat steppe plains, river valleys and a coastal strip with several small ports.

The region was formed in January 1939 as part of the Ukrainian Soviet Republic from portions of Dnipropetrovsk. In the following decades it grew into a center for industry and energy production.

The region contains numerous archaeological sites, including Kamyana Mohyla stone formations and the historical Khortytsia Island, connecting to ancient settlements and Cossack heritage.

The region is divided into five administrative districts, with the city of the same name serving as the capital. Travelers will find larger transport connections and urban facilities there.

Near the town of Enerhodar stands the largest nuclear power plant in Europe. The facility was built in the 1980s and still shapes the energy supply of the region.
