Interstate 88, Major interstate highway in northern Illinois, United States
Interstate 88 extends 140.6 miles from Silvis and Moline near the Iowa border to Hillside, connecting the Quad Cities with Chicago.
The road received its Interstate Highway designation in July 1987, transitioning from Illinois Route 5 and allowing speed limit increases to 65 miles per hour.
Following the death of former President Ronald Reagan in 2004, the tollway section received its current name to honor the Illinois native.
The speed limit varies from 70 miles per hour west of Illinois Route 47 to 65 and 60 miles per hour in eastern sections.
Interstate 88 functions as part of the Chicago-Kansas City Expressway, providing an alternative route to Interstate 80 for freight transportation.
