Keystone Building

The Keystone Building is a Prairie School office structure in Aurora that spans 165 feet along Stolp Avenue. It features individual shops on the ground floor and matching exterior divisions across three upper stories, with elevators and separate entrances serving different tenants.

The building was designed in 1923 by architect George Grant Elmslie and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980, recognizing its architectural importance. This designation underscores its value as an example of the Prairie School style from that era.

The building displays organic terra cotta details in blue and gold tones that reflect design ideas influenced by Louis Sullivan. These colored ornaments are visible on the facades and give the structure its distinctive character.

The building is located at 30 South Stolp Avenue in downtown Aurora and is easily accessible on foot. The multiple retail spaces have separate entrances, so you can explore different sections independently.

This is the largest private office structure designed in Prairie School style, featuring polished terrazzo floors throughout its interior. The combination of scale and style makes it a rare example of this architectural direction.
