Cumberland County, County in eastern Tennessee, United States.

Cumberland County sits on the Cumberland Plateau in eastern Tennessee and covers about 685 square miles of land. The landscape includes the Crab Orchard Mountains to the northeast, with Crossville serving as the administrative center.

The county was established on November 16, 1855, and found itself divided during the Civil War era. Residents held conflicting loyalties between Union and Confederate causes, making it a region caught between opposing forces.

The Cumberland Homesteads from the 1930s show how the community responded to economic hardship through cooperative housing. These homes created neighborhoods where people could rebuild their lives together during difficult times.

Crossville is the main hub for exploring the area, as it houses the county administrative offices. The town is accessible during weekday business hours and serves as a good base for visitors interested in local history and attractions.

Grassy Cove is a sinkhole depression that stretches about 3 miles across and drops over 1,000 feet (300 m) deep. This karst formation reveals the dramatic geological forces that shaped the landscape beneath the county.
