Noguchi Museum, Art museum in Long Island City, United States
The Noguchi Museum occupies two floors inside a converted industrial building that connects indoor spaces with an outdoor sculpture garden. The galleries display works in stone, metal, wood and other materials, while larger pieces stand among plantings outside.
Isamu Noguchi transformed a former printing plant from the 1920s into his own museum in 1985. He designed every room personally and made the building into the first institution of its kind founded by a living artist in the United States.
The name honors the Japanese-American sculptor whose work emerged from the connection between two traditions. Visitors today experience this blend in forms that feel both organic and geometric.
The museum opens from Wednesday through Friday between 10 AM and 5 PM and extends to 6 PM on weekends. The garden remains accessible even in light rain, and comfortable shoes help when exploring the outdoor areas.
Some works have stood in the same spots for decades, exactly where the artist placed them. These fixed positions turn the entire building into one large installation.
