Olive Branch is a suburban city in northern Mississippi, located in DeSoto County near the Tennessee border. The community covers approximately 96 square kilometers (36.9 square miles) and sits at an elevation of about 118 meters (387 feet).
The settlement was first known as Cowpens and Watson's Crossroads before being incorporated as Olive Branch in 1874. The final name was proposed by Frances Wilson Blocker and has remained in use since then.
Families from the area regularly attend events at City Park, where playgrounds and open grass areas are often used for weekend leisure activities. The name of the community symbolizes reconciliation and is a direct reference to biblical peace motifs that residents often mention in conversations.
Visitors can access municipal information through the DeSoto County Connect app, which also provides emergency alerts via text message. The city is easily accessible from the greater Memphis area through several major roads.
During the three decades between 1980 and 2010, many households moved here from central Memphis, multiplying the population by several hundred percent. This influx transformed the townscape from a small rural community to a growing suburb.
