Holiday World & Splashin' Safari, Theme park in Santa Claus, Indiana, United States.
Holiday World & Splashin' Safari is a theme park in Santa Claus, Indiana, with four distinct sections representing Christmas, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Independence Day. Wooden and steel roller coasters alternate with water slides and wave pools, while shaded paths connect the different zones.
Louis J. Koch opened the first grounds in 1946 under the name Santa Claus Land as a small Christmas park in Indiana. The family expanded the concept to include other holidays and renamed it Holiday World in 1984, adding new rides and water areas.
Many rides and areas take their names from American holidays and traditions, making families feel they step through celebrations as they move around the grounds. Christmas songs play in the winter section while patriotic tunes accompany the Independence Day area.
Visitors receive free access to drinks and sunscreen at stations throughout the park, which proves helpful on hot summer days. Large lockers are available in both sections of the grounds, making it easy to switch between dry rides and water attractions.
The wooden roller coaster Voyage extends about 1.2 miles (1.9 kilometers) and takes riders underground several times through hand-dug tunnels. The track runs through thick forest sections, making tree branches rush close to the cars.
