The Legend, Wooden roller coaster in Santa Claus, Indiana, United States.
The Legend is a wooden roller coaster at Holiday World & Splashin' Safari in Santa Claus, Indiana, running through a forested section of the park with five tunnels and a series of steep drops. The track alternates between high points and low valleys, keeping the train moving at speeds that reach around 60 miles per hour (about 97 km/h) at its fastest.
The coaster was built in 2000 by Custom Coasters International as part of a broader expansion of the park at that time. In 2016, large portions of the track were replaced and several elements redesigned, giving the ride a noticeably different profile from its original form.
The Legend takes its name and theme from the Headless Horseman, a figure from American folklore that many riders already know from school or film. Passing through the wooded sections of the track, that reference feels natural rather than forced.
Loose items should be stored in the lockers near the entrance before boarding, as the drops and turns can send things flying. Visiting on a weekday or outside peak summer weeks tends to mean shorter waits and a calmer experience overall.
The track includes a spiral drop that was considered an unusual design choice for a wooden coaster when it was first built. Riders who pay attention can feel the difference between that section and the more conventional drops elsewhere on the course.
