Cannelton Cotton Mill, Historic cotton mill in Cannelton, United States.
The sandstone industrial building measures 280 feet in length and features two towers, one for fire escape and another for water storage.
Constructed in 1849, the mill became the largest industrial structure west of the Allegheny Mountains, employing 400 workers to produce cotton sheeting.
The facility represents a milestone in American industrial development, marking the expansion of textile manufacturing beyond New England into the western territories.
Following its transformation in 2003, the former manufacturing facility now contains 70 residential apartments for low-income housing needs.
The mill relied heavily on female labor, with only 78 men among its 309 workers during peak production in 1890.
