Bob Cummings – Lincoln Trail Bridge, Through arch bridge in Hawesville, Kentucky, United States.
The Bob Cummings Lincoln Trail Bridge is a steel arch bridge that crosses the Ohio River between Cannelton, Indiana and Hawesville, Kentucky. The structure carries traffic from both states and serves as a key river crossing for the region.
Construction began in 1964 and the bridge opened to traffic in 1966 to connect the growing communities across the river. It was later named after Bob Cummings, a newspaper editor who spent years working for the advancement of the area.
The bridge received its name in November 1974 to honor Bob Cummings, the editor of the Cannelton News who dedicated his work to community development until 1971.
This crossing is open year-round for vehicles of all sizes and can be used free of charge. Pedestrians and cyclists may also cross, though the roadway is primarily designed for motor vehicles.
Tolls were once collected for crossing until Indiana removed all charges in the early 1990s. This change made it a completely free passage between the two states.
