Wildebeest, Water coaster in Santa Claus, United States.
Wildebeest is a water coaster at Holiday World and Splashin' Safari in Santa Claus, Indiana, that runs along red and yellow fiberglass tracks through the park grounds. The course includes seven drops and two underground tunnels.
The ride opened in 2010 and was at that time one of the longest of its kind in the world. Other rides have since surpassed it in length, but it continues to operate and draw visitors.
Wildebeest has won multiple Golden Ticket Awards from Amusement Today magazine, including Best New Waterpark Ride and Best Waterpark Ride. These awards are voted on by industry insiders and are considered a respected recognition in the amusement park world.
A ground-level conveyor at the boarding area helps visitors who have trouble with stairs get on without climbing. Going early in the day tends to mean shorter waits at this popular ride.
Linear induction motors beneath the track work with steel plates under the boat to push riders uphill with no visible moving parts on the surface. This is what allows the ride to go uphill at all, which is something a standard water slide cannot do.
