Spring Hill is a census-designated place in Hernando County in central Florida, characterized by residential neighborhoods interwoven with open green spaces. The community covers roughly 160 square kilometers (62 square miles) and sits at an elevation of around 30 meters (100 feet) above sea level.
The Deltona Corporation and the Mackle Brothers founded this settlement in 1967 as a planned residential development on previously undeveloped land. The project transformed large tracts of Hernando County into organized neighborhoods and road networks.
The name of this settlement refers to natural springs that once flowed in the area and served as landmarks for early settlers. Today, residents combine daily life and recreation in numerous parks often visited by families on weekends.
Tampa General Hospital Spring Hill and several schools within the Hernando County School District provide basic medical and educational services locally. The Pasco-Hernando State College offers access to higher education in the region.
