Chicago Golf Club, Private golf course in Wheaton, Illinois
Chicago Golf Club is a private golf course in Illinois designed by Charles Blair Macdonald. The layout combines natural terrain with classic bunkers and rolling greens that demand accuracy from tee to hole.
The club was founded in 1892 and became the first golf course in the United States with 18 holes. Seth Raynor redesigned the layout in the early 1920s, introducing elements that remain in place today.
The golf club maintains traditional golf customs through its exclusive membership system, where new members require nomination from existing club participants.
The playing season runs from April through November, when weather and ground conditions are at their best. Access is granted only through private membership, arranged through existing members.
All boundary areas sit on the left side of the fairways, a quirk linked to the original designer's playing style. This arrangement forces golfers to adjust their strategy accordingly and make deliberate choices on every shot.
