Lewisboro is a town in Westchester County spanning approximately 29 square miles across rolling countryside. It comprises six hamlets: Goldens Bridge, Cross River, Waccabuc, South Salem, Lewisboro, and Vista.
The town was originally established as Salem in 1747 and renamed South Salem in 1806. It later took the name Lewisboro, derived from early settler John Lewis.
The Trailside Nature Museum in Ward Pound Ridge Reservation displays mounted animals and American Indian artifacts. This museum ranks among the oldest institutions of its kind in North America.
The area contains seven lakes including Lake Waccabuc, Lake Oscaleta, and Lake Rippowam. Dedicated committees manage these water resources and their recreational access.
The Wolf Conservation Center in South Salem offers visitors overnight camping experiences near wolves and educational presentations about North American wolves. This provides a rare chance to observe these predators in a managed setting.
