Keeler Tavern

Keeler Tavern is a Colonial Revival wooden building located on grounds that include the historic tavern structure, a carriage barn, and garden spaces. The site demonstrates how an inn and residence operated during the colonial and early American period.

The building became a target during the Revolutionary War in 1777 when British forces fired cannons at it during military operations in the region. The damage from that attack left permanent marks on the structure.

The building tells the story of how people lived here across generations, with furnishings and objects from different periods that show daily life in earlier times. The collection gives a sense of family and community in the region from colonial times through the early 1900s.

Visitors can take guided tours through the property to explore the different buildings and collections, with options for individual visitors and groups alike. Plan to spend adequate time to see all areas of the grounds.

A cannonball from 1777 is still embedded in a corner post of the building, showing the exact spot where the attack struck. This visible evidence of the past serves as a striking reminder of the conflict that occurred here.
