Frederic Remington House, National Historic Landmark in Ridgefield, US
The Frederic Remington House is a wood frame residence with a gambrel roof, stone and clapboard exteriors, and three large shed-roof dormers across the front. The two-story structure preserves its original central hall layout with a dedicated artist studio space integrated into the design.
Frederic Remington and his wife purchased the property with around 45 acres in Ridgefield in 1909 and soon began construction of their residence. The artist died just months after the house was completed.
The studio space features high ceilings and large windows designed to support artistic work. Visitors can see where creative works documenting American life were produced during this period.
The house is located on Oak Knoll Road and displays original architectural features and room layouts characteristic of an artist's residence from that era. Visitors should allow time to explore the studio area to understand the working conditions the artist had available.
Two significant artworks were created during the artist's final period in this house: a sculpture and a painting capturing human connection. These pieces represent some of his most notable later works.
