Alcoa High School, School building in Alcoa, United States
Alcoa High School is a school building in Alcoa, Tennessee, with classrooms, science labs, a library, a gymnasium, and athletic facilities. It serves as the city's only secondary school, covering all high school grade levels.
The school opened in 1939 and replaced the earlier Springbrook High School, which had served the local community before it. The project was backed by the Aluminum Company of America, the company that had shaped much of the town of Alcoa.
The athletic teams known as the Tornadoes represent the school in regional competitions and form an important part of the local sports identity. The school serves as a place where students develop both their athletic and academic abilities while feeling part of a shared community.
The building is best reached through the main entrance, and visitors should keep in mind that this is an active school. Outside visitors are generally asked to check in at the front office before going further on campus.
The land where the school now stands was originally set aside for a clubhouse before the community decided it was better used for education. This shift reflects how quickly the town's priorities changed as its population grew around the aluminum industry.
