Westwood, Victorian residence in Knoxville, United States.
Westwood is a residence built in 1890 that combines Queen Anne architectural style with Romanesque details. The interior features high ceilings, tall windows, and a distinctive skylight in the studio area designed to provide natural light for creative work.
The Baumann Brothers built this house in 1890 for John Lutz and his wife, who kept it in their family for four generations until 2009. This long ownership history shaped how the building developed and influenced its preservation today.
The house served as both a home and working studio for artist Adelia Armstrong Lutz, showing how she blended family life with her creative practice. The spaces reveal how an artist organized her daily work and personal life under one roof.
The house is located on Kingston Pike and opens for scheduled tours where visitors can walk through the rooms and studio area. It is helpful to check opening hours in advance and allow time for a thorough visit of all the spaces.
This house is the only example from Tennessee recognized in a national program dedicated to historic artists' homes and studios. Among roughly 55 such sites across the country, this one stands out as a rare survivor that shows how a working artist lived and created in the late 1800s.
