Allegheny Reservoir

Allegheny Reservoir is a large water body that stretches roughly 24 miles across Pennsylvania and New York, covering about 21,000 acres of water surface. It sits within the Allegheny National Forest and is framed by forested shores and natural landscapes.

The reservoir was created in 1965 with the completion of Kinzua Dam, authorized by Congress through flood control legislation in 1936 and 1938. This project transformed the landscape and displaced communities that had lived in the valley for generations.
