Aurora Inn

Aurora Inn sits on the eastern shore of Cayuga Lake with water views from its restored 19th-century building. The property combines historic architecture with modern conveniences including Wi-Fi, a spa, fitness center, and a restaurant serving locally-sourced meals.

Edwin Barber Morgan, co-founder of the New York Times and American Express, established this accommodation in 1833 as a gathering place for the community. The building evolved from a meeting spot into an established hotel and remains tied to the region's development.

The building maintains original architectural features while being part of the Aurora Village-Wells College Historic District, reflecting regional construction traditions and styles from its era.

The building is easily accessed from the main road and offers ample parking along the waterfront. Visitors should note that clear days provide the best lake views and the grounds are suitable for walking around the property.

Pleasant Rowland, creator of American Girl dolls, funded the complete restoration of the property and incorporated her personal art collection throughout the building. This artistic enhancement adds a contemporary art dimension to the historic site that many visitors overlook.
