Battle Creek Cypress Swamp Sanctuary, Nature preserve in Calvert County, Maryland.
The sanctuary spans 100 acres of wetlands featuring bald cypress trees, connected by a quarter-mile elevated boardwalk through the natural swamp environment.
The Nature Conservancy established Battle Creek Cypress Swamp as its first preserve in Maryland during 1957, and it received National Natural Landmark status in 1965.
The nature center provides educational exhibits about local wildlife and implements programs that connect visitors with the ecological heritage of Southern Maryland.
Located at 2880 Grays Road in Prince Frederick, the sanctuary requires advance reservations for groups of ten or more visitors to participate in guided programs.
The preserve contains the northernmost natural population of bald cypress trees in the United States, marking a geographical limit for this species.
