Calvert Cliffs State Park

Calvert Cliffs State Park encompasses 1,200 acres of forests, wetlands, and coastal areas, featuring high sedimentary cliffs along the Chesapeake Bay shoreline.

Native American tribes inhabited the region for thousands of years before European settlers arrived in the 17th century, using the area for hunting and gathering.

The park functions as an educational center where students and researchers study marine fossils, geology, and environmental science through organized programs.

The beach area provides opportunities for fossil collection, while marked trails through forests lead visitors on a 1.8-mile path to reach the waterfront.

The cliffs contain fossils from the Miocene epoch, including remains of prehistoric species such as sharks, whales, and marine invertebrates.
