Chicopee Memorial State Park, Public recreation area in Chicopee, United States.
Chicopee Memorial State Park is a 562-acre recreation area centered around a 25-acre pond surrounded by extensive pine forests. The property features a network of paved trails that wind through the wooded landscape, offering pathways for walking and outdoor exploration.
The site began as Cooley Brook Reservoir and Watershed in the 1890s to supply water to the growing city. Between 1896 and 1926, three reservoirs were constructed to meet expanding water needs.
The park serves as a hub for local running events and school team training activities. Visitors will regularly encounter athletes using the trails for competitions and practice sessions, making it a gathering place for the sports community.
Visit in the morning or early afternoon when trails are less crowded and weather is most predictable. Wear comfortable walking shoes since paved paths pass through wooded terrain that can be uneven in places.
The property houses the headquarters of the Massachusetts Bureau of Forest Fire Control District 11 within its boundaries. This operational presence connects the park to fire prevention and forest monitoring in the region.
