Holyoke Merry-Go-Round, Historic carousel in Holyoke, Massachusetts, United States.
The Holyoke Merry-Go-Round is a carousel in Massachusetts featuring 48 hand-carved wooden horses of different sizes and styles, ranging from large show horses to smaller jumpers and stationary figures. Every horse is painted with decorative details and the whole ride operates with a traditional band organ.
The carousel was installed at Mountain Park in 1929 by the Philadelphia Toboggan Company. After the park closed in 1987, community members saved it from deterioration through fundraising efforts.
The carousel displays early 20th-century American craftsmanship through its hand-carved wooden horses and traditional band organ playing classical tunes. Visitors can experience this older art form as it was originally performed, noticing the painted details on each figure.
The carousel operates on weekends during afternoon hours, making it easy for families to visit on a casual outing. Modern features ensure that people of all ages and abilities can enjoy a ride.
The current building was designed to replicate the original pavilion structure from Mountain Park, consciously keeping the connection to its past location alive. This deliberate choice blends historical memory with modern safety standards.
