Covewood Lodge, Historic summer camp at Big Moose Lake, New York, US
Covewood Lodge is a summer retreat at Big Moose Lake consisting of a T-shaped main building and eighteen surrounding cottages spread across fifty acres. The structures display early twentieth-century wooden architecture with vertical and diagonal board detailing throughout.
Earl Covey designed and built the lodge between 1924 and 1925, establishing an early example of American resort architecture. The property subsequently developed into an enduring destination that has hosted multiple generations of guests.
The property serves as a gathering place where families return year after year to share summer experiences by the water. The layout of cottages around the main building encourages a sense of community among guests.
The property opens from May through October and accommodates up to one hundred guests across individual units. Each cottage is furnished with a full kitchen, allowing visitors to prepare their own meals during their stay.
The main building features a two-story porch supported by massive tree trunks, showcasing how natural materials were woven into the construction. This approach was typical of early resort design in the region during that era.
