The Delta del Orinoco National Park extends across 3,310 square kilometers of wetlands, rivers, and forests in the Orinoco River Delta system.
The Venezuelan government established this protected area on June 5, 1991, to safeguard the diverse ecosystems of the Orinoco Delta region.
The Warao indigenous people maintain their traditional way of life within the park, relying on fishing and natural resources for their sustenance.
Visitors need permits from Inparques to access the park, and guided boat tours provide the primary means of exploring the waterway network.
The park contains an intricate system of tidal channels called caños, where freshwater and saltwater mix to create specialized habitats for numerous species.
