Jinnah Memorial Mosque, Mosque in Saint Joseph, Trinidad and Tobago
The Jinnah Memorial Mosque is a mosque in Saint Joseph distinguished by its distinctive dome-based design. The structure features a central dome accompanied by four half-domes and six smaller domes positioned at hexagonal angles.
The land was granted to the Trinidad Muslim League by the British Windward Islands government in 1947. Construction finished in 1954, establishing this location as a center for worship and community gatherings.
This place serves as a gathering point for Islamic celebrations and community events throughout the year. The building reflects how traditional religious architecture has been adapted to its Caribbean surroundings.
The interior is accessible through staircases located within the minarets if you wish to explore upper areas. The structure can accommodate up to 1,000 people, so it typically remains spacious enough for visitors outside prayer times.
The main dome rises approximately 24 feet (7 meters) and is surrounded by glass louvres that allow light to filter into the interior in an unusual way. The peak of the dome is crowned with a crescent and star symbol, a detail that stands out distinctly against the sky when viewed from below.
