El Calvario, National historical monument and urban park in Libertador Municipality, Caracas, Venezuela.
El Calvario spans approximately 17 hectares on a hilltop in central Caracas, featuring terraced gardens, stone pathways, plazas, monuments, and a Gothic-style chapel dedicated to Nuestra Señora de Lourdes.
Commissioned by President Antonio Guzmán Blanco in 1873, the park was designed by French landscape architects as Venezuela's first urban park and botanical garden, originally named Paseo Guzmán Blanco.
The park houses numerous sculptures and busts representing important Venezuelan and Latin American historical figures, including Simón Bolívar, Ezequiel Zamora, José Leonardo Chirino, and Santiago Mariño.
Visitors can access the park through various routes in the Libertador Municipality and explore interconnected plazas including Plaza Bolívar, Plaza de Cervantes, Plaza Teresa Carreño, and Plaza La Estrella.
The park contains a grand staircase of 110 steps leading to the hilltop shrine and offers panoramic views of Caracas from its elevated position above the city center.
