Palacio de las Academias

The Palacio de las Academias is a Neo-Gothic building on Avenida Universidad distinguished by its long facade divided into multiple bays. A central clock tower rises above the roof and dominates the overall appearance of the structure.

The building began as a Franciscan convent founded in 1684, serving religious purposes for nearly two centuries. A major transformation occurred in the 1870s when its colonial style was replaced with Neo-Gothic design to match contemporary tastes.

Today the palace hosts six national academies that bring together scholars and thinkers from across Venezuela. Inside you can see how the country values preserving knowledge and supporting intellectual exchange through these institutions.

The palace sits near the Capitolio/El Silencio metro station, making it easy to reach by public transport. The entrance is clearly marked at the intersection of Avenida Universidad and La Bolsa street.

Inside there is a paraninfo auditorium decorated with portraits and busts of important Venezuelan historical figures. The collection honors leaders who shaped the nation's past, combining military, religious, and intellectual achievements in one space.
