Sticklerhütte, Alpine hut in Muhr, Austria.
Sticklerhütte is a mountain hut situated at about 1750 meters elevation near the source of the Mur river in the Radstädter Tauern range. The building houses two and three-person rooms and serves meals to hikers and mountaineers passing through.
A previous structure called Murhütte was destroyed by avalanche in 1951, after which the Austrian Alpine Club Section Graz took over the current site in 1969. The new construction aimed to restore safe shelter for mountaineers in this hazardous region.
The hut embodies traditional Alpine hospitality and provides shelter and meals to hikers exploring this remote mountain region. Visitors experience how mountaineers and walkers gather and connect at high elevation.
The hut opens from June through September and requires advance reservations, typically best booked several months ahead. The location is accessible only on foot via mountain trails, so visitors should bring sturdy footwear and weather protection.
Following renovation in 2003, the hut gained modern facilities while remaining at the edge of Hohe Tauern National Park. This blend of contemporary comfort within rugged mountain terrain makes it a distinctive base for extended hiking trips.
