Le Lit du Diable

Le Lit du Diable is a natural boulder formation near Wéris featuring two distinct sections: a flat main area and a taller raised portion resembling a natural pillow. The stone sits at about 320 meters in elevation at the edge of the Ardennes region, surrounded by woodland.

During medieval times, local people attributed supernatural powers to this stone and connected it with tales involving devils and millers. These legends persisted through generations and continue to shape how the region views this geological feature.

This boulder belongs to a network of megalithic formations in the Wéris area that have captivated local imagination for centuries. Today, visitors can observe how these stones remain central to the region's identity and storytelling traditions.

The site is accessible via a walking trail of about 3.7 kilometers starting from Wéris, following the marked route of the GR57 long-distance path. The best time to visit is during dry weather when the woodland paths are easiest to walk.

The stone contains a natural concave depression shaped by millennia of erosion, creating an unusual geological feature. This physical characteristic puzzles both researchers and visitors, adding to the site's appeal.
